Lora was born in North Dakota. She attended NDSU and UND for plant science and social work. She's worked with children and families for 34 years.
The Missouri Seven. Every family has stories and secrets, some secrets are kept better than others. In 1958 a petite woman in her early 30's had seven children and a husband who split his time between the bar and his lover across town.
The family lived in a one room dirt floor shack on the other side of the tracks in south Bismarck. Only the poorest of poor lived in the often flooded pasture land.
One afternoon Grace's daughter Sandra, a kindergartener, listened to her school friend as she described the steak supper her mother was making. The little friend asked Sandra what her mother was making for supper. Sandy grumbled, "Fucking noodles."
Poverty, depression, and alcoholism created a toxic blend and a heavy karmic debt for Grace, a mom who was overwhelmed. This debt would be passed from one generation to the next. The mother of seven was no longer able to keep it together and the family circle became broken.
Children services swept in. Grace signed away her parental rights, a decision that would have generational impacts. The public shame of the orphanage was no match for the headlines that were to come.
The oldest daughter at the age of 15 fell in love with a family friend and they ran off to Nebraska. The 31 year old soldier and alcoholic got the girl pregnant. She was sent to the North Dakota reform school. When her baby was born she pleaded with the State, "I want to keep my baby." In life she never saw little Tony again.
Big Tony, the father of her baby spent 15 years in prison for the kidnap and rape of Sharon Rae. She spent the rest of her life looking for her son. He was eventually found but it was too late.
Little Tony died a few years before Sharon Rae. Mother and son both died from cancer. The grief that encased her heart since childhood stayed with her until the end.
The principal of karma is based on cause and effect of actions, past, and present. A karmic debt can be passed on from one generation to the next. The unresolved feelings of anger, mistrust, historical grief, and trauma, will repeat over and over again.
The circle of love and trust is healed and made whole through intention, our actions count. Circles are not meant to be broken. Heal what you can now and live a live through love.
If you struggle with destructive patterns and negative relationships that follow you around, healing generational karma may be the answer. You can heal this circle and return to a state of love and balance. I know this to be true because I have done the work.
